The short version

Privacy policy

We collect your email address when you ask for it to be collected, use it to send you what you signed up for, and never sell it. The details are below.

Who we are

HardFish (eathardfish.com) is an early-stage brand bringing wind-dried Icelandic cod to the United States. It is run by Assaad Alaouie from Iceland, who is responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us anytime at [email protected].

What we collect

  • Your email address, when you join the list, request the Iceland Grocery Cheat Sheet or unlock the food budget calculator breakdown.
  • Where you signed up, such as the homepage, a blog post or the calculator, so we know which pages and guides people find useful.
  • Basic signup and email records kept by our email provider, such as the time you signed up, the network address used, and whether our emails were delivered, opened or clicked.
  • Standard web server logs kept by our hosting provider, such as network addresses and browser type, used to keep the site running and secure.

We don't use advertising trackers or analytics cookies, and we don't ask for your name, address or payment details. HardFish is not for sale yet, and joining the list places no order.

How we use it

  • To send you the guide or calculator breakdown you asked for.
  • To send occasional emails with Iceland food tips and HardFish news, including early access and a founders' discount when we launch in the U.S.
  • To understand which pages and guides are most useful, in aggregate.

We send email because you asked us to (your consent). Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops them right away.

Who helps us

We share data only with the services that run the site and the list, and only what they need:

  • Kit (kit.com) stores the email list and sends our emails.
  • Cloudflare hosts the website and protects it from abuse.
  • ExchangeRate-API supplies the daily dollar-to-króna rate. When you open the calculator, your browser requests the rate from their server, which sees your network address like any website would. No email or other details are sent.

Some of these providers are based in the United States, so your data may be processed there. They provide the safeguards required for those transfers under European data protection law. We never sell or rent your data.

Stored on your device

The calculator saves two small items in your browser's local storage: that you've unlocked the breakdown, and today's exchange rate. They stay on your device, are never sent to us, and you can clear them anytime in your browser settings. The site sets no tracking cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After you unsubscribe, our email provider may keep a minimal record so you aren't emailed again by mistake.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete the data we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Just email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're in the European Economic Area, you can also complain to a data protection authority. In Iceland, that's Persónuvernd (personuvernd.is).

Children

This site is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has signed up, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change significantly affects how we use your email address, we'll tell you by email first.
